Empowering young Laotians to a self-determined life

Lotus for Laos is a non-profit organisation that offers young Laotians from three orphanages in Luang Prabang the opportunity to shape their own sustainable future.

We are convinced that education is one of the most powerful tools to achieve sustainable change. Presenting young Laotians with the opportunity to get a university degree enables them to change the system they are living in from the inside out.

Improving these educational opportunities for Laotians is our top priority.

Our work

Our ongoing project “Scholarships for a better future” was initiated in 2014 and currently enables around 36 students to go to the local university in Luang Prabang, Laos.

2017

Our aim is to secure the extra support that allows our students to finalise their studies.

To achieve this we’re seeking: further individual donations, other foundations that correspond with our goals, people that are willing to sponsor a student over the course of their studies and memberships for ongoing contributions.

We are also looking for two more students that passionately support our cause. Contact us to find out more.

2018

In addition to our ongoing goals of 2017, we seek to increase the number of students in the program and enable more young Laotians to a university degree.

Therefore we are looking for additional funding for 10 students (670 USD x 10 students x 3 years).  Support that will sponsor a student over the course of their studies and memberships are both great ways of achieving this goal.

Our impact

“When we visited the orphanage in Luang Prabang we talked to a lot of students about their future and their dreams. One story especially touched us and it was the one of this student, who is studying to become a primary teacher. He told us that once he graduated he would return to his tiny village and teach there. For us that is what sustainability is all about.“

“We met Khoasone on our very first trip to Luang Prabang in 2011. Since then I have met him on every other visit along the way and we became somewhat like friends. From the beginning he stood out due to his incredible painting talent and his at that time already impressive English skills. Currently he is in his third year of his English studies and has one more year to go before he graduates. On my last visit in February 2017 I met up with him on the local night market where he was selling his painting and making quite the pocket money. Together we sat there for more than two hours, talking about the past and the future. Khoasone originally comes from a tiny village five hours from Luang Prabang. His parents died a long time ago, as did his younger sister when she was two years old. He has no other relatives left. His biggest dream is to open up a gallery in Luang Prabang with his close friend Semsong, selling their paintings in order to help other kids in similar situations.”
